The first collection to feature hits from their entire career!
Along with Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers, The Marshall Tucker Band is the definitive Southern rock band. Over their storied career, they’ve seamlessly blended rock, country, jazz, pop, blues and soul into a beguiling blend of the best music that The South — and America — has to offer. The 2-disc Anthology is the first collection to pull together the highlights from their 30-year career.
It contains not only their biggest hits—"Fire On The Mountain," "Heard It In A Love Song," "Last Of The Singing Cowboys," "Can’t You See," "Take The Highway"—but also such fan favorites as "Where A Country Boy Belongs," "I Should Have Never Started Lovin’ You," and "Cattle Drive." Since MTB’s on-stage prowess is legendary, a live video clip has been included as a bonus.
There have been plenty of attempts to anthologize this venerable Southern band's extensive catalog, but this is the first one to get it right. Spreading 32 tracks from just over 30 years of albums across two discs, the immaculately sequenced compilation plays like a well-conceived piece. From the flute-dominated "Take the Highway," the opening cut of their 1973 debut, the Marshall Tucker Band avoided the typical Southern-boogie-rockin'-guitar path later epitomized by their more rowdy brethren the Outlaws, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Molly Hatchet. Rather, Tucker presented a more laid-back, country-based approach, highlighted by the jazzy playing of woodwind player Jerry Eubanks and drummer Paul Riddle.
Although the Capricorn/Warner Bros. decade that ended in 1983 accounts for the bulk of these selections, the last half of the second disc presents a revamped lineup led by sole original member/lead singer Doug Gray, continuing the musical legacy with remarkably engaging results. The 24-page booklet featuring a detailed history, a live CD-ROM track, and crisply remastered sound further enhance the experience that finally bestows upon this underrated band the comprehensive, classy, and long-overdue retrospective it deserves. --Hal Horowitz
Marshall Tucker Band-Anthology: The First 30 YearsReviewed by Parethed, 2009-12-27
This double CD is filled with hits from one end to the other. I enjoyed it completely, as it contained all my favorites, and then some. It was definitely a bargain, and if you like MTB, I highly recommend this CD.

This is a great album for Marshall Tucker fans. It has all of their good stuff.
they call this an anthology?Reviewed by J. kim Engle, 2009-06-26
i'm slowly replacing a good deal of my vast cd collection with the newer remastered versions of my favorite albums/cds by my favorite artist/singer songwriters/bands. it's costing me a few bucks and sometimes depending on the artist/band i buy the greatest hits/best of things and so on. i would just like to know who the clowns are who are in charge of putting together these anthology/greatest hits/best of packages together? they are obviously not any kind of music critic or expert or any kind of knowledgeable authority on anything to do with music? why would they put this out for sale without the song "this ol' cowboy" and maybe 1 or 2 other important songs while at the same time cramming it full of empty meaningless songs [filler] that no one cares about? it's like putting a beatles career type of thing together and leaving out "while my guitar gently sleeps" or a mellencamp retrospective and omitting "your life is now" or the same thing with the kinks and excluding "so tired of waiting for you"? this nonsense happens over and over again and i'm not going to shell out my hard earned money for a incomplete greatest hits repackaging! they can stuff this!!! so i'll probably do without this!..........update: 7/2/09 don't pay any attention to the two star rating i gave this. i get pissed becasuse i often have to buy 2 or 3 albums/cds to get the songs i want. they did a first rate job remastering the songs and this album/cd sounds really great and it has a good song selection for the most part.
Missing too many classic MTB songs...Reviewed by Dave from Central CT, 2009-03-11
After I purchased this collection, I was very disappointed to see how many great songs by MTB were missing, especially the notable absences of "This Ol' Cowboy", "Blue Ridge Mountain Sky", "Another Cruel Love", and "Hillbilly Band". This would have been a nice overview of a band that I had no CDs of, but now I regret not tracking down the (out-of-print) "The Best of the Marshall Tucker Band: The Capricorn Years" double CD set.
a good choiceReviewed by J. Adams, 2009-01-11
If you are any degree of a Marshall Tucker fan, this cd is a good choice for you. It combines many of the songs you remember with a few that you may not be familiar with but will also enjoy listening to.
